"My Favorite show Ever"

Celebs at 39th Annual NAACP Image Awards Nominee Luncheon ...
I have to say that for me these two women are at the tip top of my favorite female actresses of my generation.( and none of us are old by far!!!) I love me some Tisha Campbell-Martin and Ms. Tichina Arnold. I have been a fan of both since Little Shop of Horrors.Any chick who thought she was the shizzle back in the day, I am sure got half of their wardrobe ideas from the outfits Tisha and Tichina wore on the hit sitcom "Martin". As I watch the old show I can't help but love everything they had on. Those "bitches" were and still are fierce. The next time you are watching an episode correct me if I am wrong.

would not be true to myself if I did not mention that these two became embedded in my permanent brain space after being glued to my tv set with my big sis and whoever else was there every thursday night. We were desperately waiting for our double dose of hysterical laughter from Martin, Gina, Pam Tommy, and Cole. Which in my mind will always be the best Black sitcom cast of my generation, along with  In living color, Cosby,  Different World, Jamie fox, My wife and kids. and most definitely The fresh Prince.Just to name a few. Recently I have been watching all my Martin dvds and can't help but have a gut wrenching pain every time I think bout how the greatest chemistry I have ever witnessed got screwed.

Since I know neither party it would be wrong for me to speculate and so on and so forth, and believe me I could do it like we all have at one point. It would make no difference as the years have long gone by and they are in different stages in their life. But if I ever (as is my dream) get the chance to work with both or one, they have to know that as  fan of comedy and of theirs,"Damn I wish things could have been different." So just a note to Tisha, and Martin I hope after years you have one reconciled, and two maybe hopefully you can rekindle the undeniable chemistry for the big screen. ........ I'm just sayin!!!!!
As far as Mr. Martin Lawrence goes I have to say I am equally in love with him. Anyone who knows me or my family knows we love to laugh as it is therapeutic and it works your gut muscles(lol).  He really is a master comedian and I love love his work, even if no one else does.
I guess it is one of those things were we are stuck in time, you can't mentions the 90's in a household that enjoys comedy without mentioning Martin. He is and always will be relevant to me. Martin the sitcom will always be just one of those thangs I will never get over.

Speaking of Martin I must say I am not looking forward to seeing another Big momma.

While I will pay to see my fav comedian, and his new co-star is funny as well,I am not that enthused about it being yet another drequel.  Yes I said drequel. I just don't understand who is fishing these ideas around? I mean yeah give the people what they want but who ordered part seven of this franchise.... I'm Just sayin.    It has to be more talented writers out there and if not call me I am available. So before you do it movie execs no more "Bad Boys". the first one is a classic and the second one... well I love Will and Martin on the screen together so lets get creative and think of something better. Thanks for reading my evening rant until next time Dior La Gucci darlings!!!

P.S What prompted this passage is in my research I came across several articles about the blow up between the above parties. Since I like to write obviously I just wanted to give a little light to a mysterious and long gone situation. I love Tisha and I love Martin. Together or separate, and I wish them all(Tichina,Tom,and Carl) continued success, and much love!!!!

Brooklyn Author, Kendall Washington

Speaking of great men I came across this book By author Kendall Washington its a story of  four female childhood friends who go through, and grow through life together experiencing ups and downs. The females are the central characters but for me the portrayal of the men in their lives was phenomenal. It gives women who are so busy male bashing all the time something to think about. We spend so much time worrying about what we don't  have in a man that we forget to look hard at what is right in front of us.  I had the pleasure of interviewing the Brooklyn author  about her new book. Check out her inspiration and insight on creating the characters and the book. It really is a good read and sure to make you evaluate your own life choices and personal relationships. Below are the question and answers from our interview.

Questions

Q. 1.  What, or who inspired this particular story?

A. ) I've realized every one of us has a story to tell that someone can relate to. There are different experiences that my family, friends and I have gone through growing up and learned from. So it's a combination of real-life issues and fiction.

Q.2.  What experiences in your own girlfriend circle influenced the book?
A.  My experiences are influenced by certain points in my life. Communication with the friends I've had when I was 16 are not the same as the ones I have now in my 30's. Without naming anyone in my own girlfriend circle I've had friends who have gone through domestic violence, depression, infidelity, insecurity issues, teen pregnancy, etc. so it was easy for me to write my own story with 4 different females going through different problems in their own life.

Q. 3.  How important was it for you to make sure the men in this story were pictured as loving respectable hard working men?
A. ) It was very important for me. I've read countless of stories with male-bashing and I didn't want to portray the male characters in my book as such. Especially, growing up in a family where the males are well respected. My dad is an ideal role model of a man who takes care of home and his children so I wanted the same type of personalities in my book; strong black men.

Q. 4. When beginning a new relationship do you think men are more receptive then women, meaning are women more or less already anticipating a negative outcome before the date is over especially when we like what we see so far?

A. 4) I think women are more receptive than men. We tend to be more open about our feelings and what we want that it can almost sabotage a relationship before it even starts. This will give men a choice to decide if being in a relationship with that female is what they really want from the very beginning.

Q. 5. Dana's contracting Aids from Darren gave the story a very real and serious undertone. How do you think people will relate to Dana specifically?

A. 5) There are people who can really sympathize to Dana’s story and embrace it if they know someone or they’re in a similar situation. There are over 32 million people in the country living with HIV so the epidemic makes the issue close to home. You and I are not exempt from this disease as well, the only thing we can do is be as safe as possible or practice abstinence.

Q. 6. Normally it is men who are ruined by one women and the rest of the female species has to pay for it, Do you think that is the case with Erica? Realistically do you think a man like Jamal would come back to her after her betrayal?
A. 6) Well I must say when a man loves damn it’s for real. We as women sometimes wait a lifetime to try and get a man to love us unconditionally. Once that happens, he will sacrifice for his partner and family. The down side is, once that bond and understanding is broken it’s harder to get it back from a man because it doesn’t make him territorial any longer. A woman should understand a man wants to feel like there can only be one of him to do what he can do. Realistically, a man will not come back you may have him physically but not mentally.

Q. 7. Alex's  character is all to familiar. What I liked about her is even though she was very unmotivated in life(aside from men and their money) she showed as the book progressed that you can jump off the fast track to nowhere and start over. How important is it for our young girls readers to meet a character like Alex?
A. 7) I have met so many Alex(s) and knew some personally. No matter what you’re going through I always feel there’s room for improvement and empowerment. There are young girls who need to re-evaluate their life and know it’s never too late to start on a new path because you’re in control of your own destiny.

Q. 8. What is the one thing you think gel's this book together?

A. 8) I think the love and bond they share together as friends is what brings this book together. We all know how hard it is to find a true and genuine friend. Those are the ones we want to keep around through thick and thin because they’ll watch your back and your front.

Q. 9. How important was it for the characters to be shown as successful individuals? And why do you think men like Greg always attract and put up with chicks like Desiree?

A. 9) I wanted to portray a balance with these characters. Although theses characters are successful they are still human liable to make mistakes. Greg was a successful character but he still stayed true to himself as far as what he preferred in a woman. For him, his preference was based on an image and how a woman looks. But it takes a real woman to open the eyes of someone like Greg to know there’s more.

Q. 10. What was the inspiration for the title?

A. 10) The inspiration for Behind Closed Doors is where we keep all of our secrets. We could have the closest relationship with our family or friends and still not know what’s going on in their life.
Q. 11. Alex, Dana, Jasmine , and Erica were always able to overcome their differences. As girlfriends when we are young everything we do revolves around each other. When we get older we establish our own Identitities and lives. Why is it so hard for grown women to befriend each other? It might not be directly related to the story but I though I would ask because they are childhood friends.

A. 11) I think it becomes more of a competition when dealing with women. Females are too busy comparing themselves to their own friend as opposed to just appreciating what was given to them. There are too many females who are jealous because of maybe their weight, skin color, hair, relationship, talent or personality. But I think it should only be about being the best you and realizing how each of us is truly blessed in different ways.

Q. 12. Alex was a victim of Domestic violence. While it is easier to say what you would do in a situation like hers, why was she determined to make her close friends think differently instead of going to them for help?

A. 12) No one once to tell someone that he/she is being abused because it is embarrassing and a shameful situation to be in. I always say there’s a myth if you’re being abused then just get out. However, it’s not that easy too. Victims stay in abusive relationships for children, dependency, love and money. So at the end of the day domestic violence is a topic where counseling and therapy must be involved.

Q.13. Jasmine and Lance were complicated. Do you think most men would come clean about his circumstances, or would they let go of Jasmine because of pride? I asked this question because in you book I think a poignant part of it is that these men are no afraid to tell the truth, and in any relationship that is key.
A. 13) Agreed. Truth is a major part of building a strong relationship and if it happens in the beginning then many obstacles to come later can be resolved. As far as Lance, he knew what kind of person Jasmine was that’s why he was able to handle and deal with her strengths as well as weaknesses.

Q. 14. As an aspiring author myself, I think it is wonderful, not only are you a published author, but you are committed to paving the way for the future writers. Do you think in the future our community will remember the importance and power of the written word?
A. 14) Yes because words go a long way. We can remember advice someone tells us from 5 or 10 years ago so the power comes from what we do with those words at our darkest hour.

Q.15. What is next for the characters of "Behind Closed Doors"?
A. 15) Well I’m in the process of writing a sequel to Behind Closed Doors so you have to wait and find out…..LOL!

" American Vibe in Vogue"

Runway — Michael Kors Runway Spring 2011Runway — Michael Kors Runway Spring 2011Runway — Michael Kors Runway Spring 2011Runway — Michael Kors Runway Spring 2011  It is easy being green as Micheal Kors readies us for green pastures and beach fronts fit for grazing in the shade or shopping in the mall which of course is a fav. These laid back looks are a staple in American style easy and breezy but always business.

All white is alright, and u never steer wrong with a timeless khaki trench coat or trousers.

We American girls love our layers, we love our glamor and we love to be relaxed. What I have said about Micheal before is that he seems as if he enjoys flattering a woman's appetite for dress as oppose to just providing what he thinks we have to wear. Luv  it!!

Before the beautiful gems arrive that are Ralph Lauren's 2011 spring  Collection. I have to tell you that he is hands down my favorite American designer Maybe even global. The bone I may have with him is his size issue(or My lack there of issue),and his lack of imagination when it comes to designing for his plus size line. But other than that, the man is gold. If I could afford it I would wear Polo everyday all day and anything blue label black label any label he was attached to I would wear. For his spring things, he was westward bound. Taking lace and frilly things, bold buckled belts with tasseled skirts, jackets, and bags to a new Ralph Lauren Level.

I am dubbing this yellow, "Tombstone" yellow and it worked the runway effortlessly. The urban cowboy can have his urban cowgirl and they can ride off in the  cow-jet to their destination.

This suede tassel fringed jacket is beautifully crafted. It puts you  home on the range, where they are serving caviar no doubt but still some hay some horses you get it don't you. He takes you back in time where beautiful crocheted lace dresses dust the floor. The white keeps it light and flexible for spring.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue... The old is this first look which is a staple with RL this long skirt with pageboy hat and men's tailored jacket, the new is the strategically ripped jean in the hue of the season beige, tan ,camel, whatever color you call it, and the blue is this darling blue sweater coat perfect for spring nights. Love it!

Fashion does not have to be complicated. It just has to be beautiful. Ralph captures the simplicity of women well. after all we wear the garment it does not wear us. I like clothes that only add to my character not turn me into one. Some can pull it off but for me the simpler the better. Don't get me wrong I am daring and edgy with fashion but a good fashionista is not only able to evolve herself, but know keenly what works best for her and what she should never ever ever try. All these day to evening and evening looks I would wear in a heart beat. Not just because its Ralph but because I like simple elegance, and any designer I love you will hear me say just that. Even my more flashy designers I love still display factors that will keep them is the Classic category with me!!  until next time darlings ... Dior La Gucci!!!!

P.S  in Le Fash'ion language Polo means fresh...example sentence "Oh so you just goin Polo mouth me cause your girl is here?
or... " Oui oui, Madame the sushi rolls were polo made."   Because is Le fashion Polo means Fresh
